FISHERS OF MEN

Freedom from Care:      "In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."  Philippians 4:6.        The words of this commandment are neither hard nor exacting; but come to us as if the Father had put His loving arm about us and pulled us closer to Him and had bidden us, like little children, to forget our cares and leave everything to Him as He tries to help us worrying pilgrims along.  They are precious and comforting words, but for some reason, hard to obey, yet the few which we have known who walked by this rule always appear to be very happy.       "In nothing be anxious."  It seems impossible!    The text does not mean that we are not to be industrious and forethoughtful.  This same Apostle also said, "If any would not work, neither let him eat." 2 Thessalonians 3:10.  The thing He seeks to deliver us from is worry and over solicitude of world affairs with which we struggle, trying to be our own providence; wearing ourselves out in anxieties about future events which we cannot remedy or control, if indeed they are even to happen.       "Let your requests be known to God” God did not create this world and all things therein and go far away and forsake it until time shall be no more: but always, His eyes are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers." and as surely as there is a God in heaven.   He wants us (His Children), to be happy, untroubled, and unafraid.       Sometimes we would give anything to attain this ideal. Perhaps it is not so difficult if we would really try.  The great essential is a real trusting faith in our God.   The avenue is through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. How are you doing with your prayer life? How often do you pray?  Paul tells us this, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."  1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18.   The avenue of gaining success begins with prayer as prayer is the great lever of spiritual life; the lung by which it breathes.  If we pray with thankful hearts, half of our troubles will disappear.    God has not promised us miracles nor that every request is granted, but His loving care, and the peace that, passes all understanding and Our God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7.   These and many more are all promised by the Father.      Many have the hearts that have found this peace by faith and complete obedience in His Holy will.   Many are the hearts that are weary this day when in His blessed kingdom, they might find rest.   Think On These Things!
